Qonquer - v1.1 ============== Credits -------------------------------------------------- All the coding and design was done by Warren "Willem" Marshall (visit my blog to see other projects: www.wantonhubris.com/blog). Big thanks to the guys over at func_msgboard (http://www.celephais.net/board/forum.php) for all their help with QuakeC. This isn't the most original mod idea in the world but I think it builds nicely on the shoulders of the ones that have come before it. I did all the level design in my own level editor, ToeTag (http://www.wantonhubris.com/toetag). Installation -------------------------------------------------- Qonquer is a mod for Quake 1. To run it, copy the Qonquer directory from this ZIP file into your Quake directory at the same level as "id1". For example, if your Quake directory is "c:\Quake" then do the copy so that you have a "c:\Quake\Qonquer" sub directory. To play, start it up with the command line: "quake -game qonquer" When the game loads, type "map qstart". (or do this command line instead: "quake -game qonquer +map qstart") That's it! Choose your skill in the start level and it will teleport you to the arena map, QArena. Walk into the teleporter of your choice and get ready to play! How to Play -------------------------------------------------- When you enter an arena, you will see a glowing backpack in the middle of the arena. Picking up that backpack will give you your weapon load out and will start the game. Until you pick up the backpack, you are free to explore the arena and get your bearings. Once the game starts, Qonquer will throw enemies at you in waves. When all enemies in a wave are dead, there is a brief rest period where you can run around and re-supply yourself. Health -------------------------------------------------- Your health slowly ticks upward towards 100 so if you can catch a break you might be able to regen a few points to keep yourself in the game. Also, Qonquer awards you bonus health points for every enemy you gib. Arenas -------------------------------------------------- Arenas are self contained combat areas. Level designers are free to do whatever they want in their arenas, including trigger special events between rounds, so be on the look out for things that might have changed in your arena as you progress in rounds. Minions -------------------------------------------------- Qonquer knows what you're up against so you'll be getting a little help. Each arena will spawn in minions that will fight FOR you. These creatures are different from the ones who are attacking you so you should be able to figure out who is friendly. Oh, and they glow. Minions fight to the death and aren't scared of anything. Well, except for zombies. They won't attack zombies. Those are up to you to kill. You can't hurt your minions so don't be afraid of shooting into crowds. They may bleed when you shoot them but you aren't hurting them. Winning -------------------------------------------------- You can't. Qonquer will eventually overcome you no matter how good you are.
