v.0.47 - June 19, 2011 Original "official" release. --- Bloqs --- A concept mod of sorts by Lord Asaki. "So, this is like Minecraft, right?" Sure. Except there's no mining. And no crafting. When I was little, I used to take my tub of wooden blocks and build bases for my G.I. Joes to battle in. I thought I'd see how well this would translate to the Quake universe. It -should- work in any engine, but DarkPlaces is recommended for the optimum experience (randomly colored Bloqs and higher limits). Impulse 1 switches between your axe and the "Bloq tool". While you're using the Bloq tool, pressing "attack" will spawn a new Bloq (random in shape and color), or it will pick up a Bloq you've already set down. Note: You shouldn't be able to pick up a Bloq someone else placed. While you're holding a Bloq, impulse 1 will delete it, impulse 2 will rotate it, and "attack" will drop it (if possible). Bloqs can be stacked, pushed around, destroyed, or you can drop them on peoples' heads. Deathmatch 2 is "Creation Mode". Bloqs can only be destroyed by telefrag or deletion, and can't be pushed around. Bloq3.bsp is a customized version of DM3: The Abandoned Base, with more space for building and extra scaffold platforms. Q1Edge might be a good map for building, too (not included). I've included a couple of save files. Saving and loading structures seems to work fine (except in multiplayer, obviously). Bugs: Hoo boy, there's probably quite a few. Sometimes Bloqs will fall through each other, or through the world. I think it has something to do with them being spawned too close to the ceiling, but I haven't created a fix for it yet. So just keep that in mind. I guess the droptofloor() function only goes so far down, so if you try to drop a Bloq from certain heights, its shadow will float there instead of on the ground. You can still drop it (as long as it's not red), it'll just be harder to know where it'll land. I'm not sure if I like being able to push Bloqs around, I might take it back out. ------------------------------------------------------------- I have a few ideas on how to turn this feature into a full- fledged game mode, but nothing solid. For now this is just sort of a demonstration, but it's still fun to mess around with. It's one of those "sandbox" things all the kiddies are raving about these days. Where have I heard this before? -------------------------------------------------------------
