v.0.47 - June 19, 2011 Original "official" release. --- Quaking Inferno --- "Emergency! A downtown skyscraper has burst into flames, and only you can rescue the helpless hundreds trapped within. Quickly, you helicopter to the scene and dispatch your men to battle the deadly flames. How many survivors can you rescue before it's too late?" -- Towering Inferno, 1982 ============================================================================= INSTRUCTIONS Code Red! Emergency! Quake has burst into flames, and only you can rescue the helpless hundreds trapped within. Quickly, you teleport to the scene, and dispatch yourself to battle the deadly flames. How many survivors can you save? Play QUAKING INFERNO and find out! Quaking Inferno is a single player or co-op, full color, action-packed mod designed for play in the Quake(TM) video game. THE GAME PLAY 1. Your mission is to rescue as many people as possible from the QUAKING INFERNO in order to score as many points as possible. Should be compatible with most Quake maps, so you have lots of work to do! 2. Four survivors are trapped on every map; as the clock ticks, they dwindle to 3, then 2, then 1, until no one is left to save. Each survivor is worth 25 points. 3. You also score points by extinguishing the flames (1 point is scored for each flame, 20 points for clearing them out). The flames, however, are deadly and must be avoided at all costs. If the heat gets too unbearable, you perish. 4. If you successfully complete a level, you and your survivors will teleport to safety and the computer automatically advances you to the next map. To Put Out the Flames 1. Simply take aim and depress the "fire" button. Your supply of water is limitless, so don't be stingy! Some flames are harder to douse than others, and you'll find they need an extra squirt before they go out. 2. There are two kinds of flames: a Flameoid and a Wall of Fire. A Wall of Fire is especially tricky because, when squirted, it breaks into smaller flameoids which still have to be extinguished before safe passage is possible. To Rescue the Survivors 1. When you begin a stage, there are 4 survivors hiding randomly throughout. 2. To save the survivors, maneuver yourself towards them, then flee as quickly as you can to the exit teleport. 3. The teleport will automatically return you and your passengers to the next level, where they safely disembark. There's always a catch: As time passes, fewer and fewer survivors remain. Just before each one perishes, the survivor will let out several yelps of pain. When the last survivor is about to go, he lets you know with a loud, obnoxious warning yell. This is your signal to escape as fast as possible before all is lost! You've Successfully Completed a Level When: 1. You've escaped with one or more survivors. 2. You've doused all the flames on the map. In this case, the clock stops running, and no more survivors perish. Escape at your leisure! Upon successful completion of a map, you and your survivors teleport to safety and the computer automatically advances you to the next level. ============================================================================= Special thanks: mathlib_sqrt() from FrikaC Random Rune spawning from ThreeWave CTF Random spawnpoints selection from QIP U.S. Games Corporation Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corporation Atari, Inc. Secret notes: Ignore the part about "points", you don't actually get any. If you haven't noticed, "monsters" shows you how many innocents have died, "secrets" displays how many you've saved. "Skill 1" lets you save monsters instead of Quake guys! "Skill 2" gives them their original hit points. Change "temp1 #" in the console to increase or decrease the flame limit. Default is 30. Hoppy Easter!
